Rust, welding and paint

Another late update, just gave up documenting the amount of rust in this car.

The list is.

New boot floor

Rear panel under bumper

Rear lower side panels

Rear shock towers

OS Rear suspension support, and stiffeners

OS Outer sill + patch repair inner sill

NS Rear suspension support (TBC)

Inner wheel arch OS and NS (TBC)

Rear window surround

Front window surround (TBC)

Driver floor needs seam welding from below

A post repairs (extensive) OS and NS

Rear of front panel both sides

Front chassis support member

Front panel below bumper - minor welding (TBC)

Scuttle panel welding.

Strengthening chassis supports

NS lower wing repair

Bonnet repairs to correct mistakes

Small repairs to door (TBC)

The good news is that the welding is 90% complete and most of the rust has been banished. The exception is the door and bonnet. That will come soon. The BMW has now been put back on the drive to make way for the return of my spitfire that needs the garage space. The collection of the photos below shows some of the repairs.

Rear end, 95% of the rust is gone and bear metal etch prime red or rust neutralizing paint applied.

Chassis strenghtener

The Nose ! Front panel is good but bonnet lip needs work

Front side panel

Looks awful, two more sessions and this was completely clean.

Front chassis reinforcement and what what i has as a pattern for the new part.

Sill end / subframe mount / seat belt point repairs.

And what i started with.
